von Braun Sports Cars unveiled the P1800 SAINT concept—a bespoke Swedish masterpiece marrying state-of-the-art craftsmanship with contemporary performance and driver-centric features. This concept aims to revolutionize classic Volvo P1800 cars, offering a complete overhaul of technical elements, from rear-view mirrors/cameras to brand-new engines, tailored to individual customer specifications.
Zachau Design was enlisted to refine the exterior, focusing on aerodynamics and subtle styling enhancements. With the blessing of the original creator, Pelle Petterson, we embraced the challenge to breathe new life into this iconic vehicle.
We were tasked with crafting a headlight unit that seamlessly integrated five distinct features and functionalities within a compact design. What set this challenge apart was the requirement for each optical section to be segmented, enabling a myriad of lighting combinations.
These included turn signals, driving lights, reverse lights, fog lights, and brake lights, with the potential for numerous customizable configurations.
Due to ECE regulations mandating an amber turn signal and other required functionalities, the design of a single-piece billet lens necessitated certain portions of the optical area to remain transparent while others had to be colored red.
The outcome of this design approach was truly distinctive: a billet plastic tail light lens characterized by its two-toned appearance. Utilizing a special solvent-based dye and process, we are able to alter the optical characteristics and coloration.
